We are planning to introduce a Jiyu Waza Challenge starting from next week (29/9) or the week after, and running until the end of the year — about 11–12 weeks in total.
The idea is to set aside 10–20 minutes after regular Monday training for this challenge.
Purpose:
The goal is to sharpen our reactions, deepen familiarity with techniques, and, most importantly strengthen and refine the flow of Ki. The practice will be structured in a continuous, flowing way, with each Tori receiving at least two rounds of practice.
Since this is our first time running such a challenge, we may adjust the structure along the way if we find a better approach.
If it goes well, we may add weapons practice in future challenges.
Outline:
- Weeks 1–3: Four techniques, followed by one kkyo and a ninin gake (5–6 moves).
- Weeks 4–8: Five techniques, followed by two kkyos, and a ninin gake (5–6 moves).
- Week 9 onward: Six techniques, followed by three kkyos, and a ninin gake (5–6 moves).
- Final week of the year: Each Tori performs any techniques and any kkyos, finishing with a ninin gake — all within 1 minute.
Challenge rules:
- The sequence of techniques must be followed (this sequence will be published in a later post).
- Uke can attack with any waza (uchi or dori), but not the same one consecutively.
We’ll need at least 3 Toris to run this challenge. I’m in — so we need two more!
